Exploring the current situation of periodic publication in archaeology: Revista d’Arqueologia de Ponent in context

Xosé-Lois Armada

This article analyses the current state of active archaeological journals with special attention paid to the Revista d’Arqueologia de Ponent (RAP). A total of 69 journals, for the most part established after 1970, are currently active in Spain. Most are published by universities or the CSIC and offer their content by Open Access. The RAP fits this pattern. Some of its main indicators of quality (number of collaborations, level of external authorship, etc.) reveal a positive evolution in recent years that can be linked to editorial changes since 2009.
