Manuscript Guidelines of Revista d'Arqueologia de Ponent

Submission and presentation of papers

These will be sent to the journal’s E-mail adress:dgha.rap@udl.cat

There are no submission or processing fees when submitting articles to Revista d'Arqueologia de Ponent, and the authors hold the copyright without restrictions.

In keeping with the current evaluation practices for scientific journals, for articles to be accepted, it is essential that they are accompanied by a document signed by the author certifying the originality of the work and that it has not been nor will be published in any other medium.

The Board of Editors will send each original to two peer reviewers; it will then decide on its publication and communicate its decision to the authors within a period of no more than three months.

The format of the articles will be as follows: the title (in the language of the article and in English) and the name of the author(s), a summary of approximately 150 words in the language of the article and another in English or French, between four and six keywords, the text, notes, bibliography, figure captions and figures. The first page of each article will have the title (in lower case lettering so that the capitals and the accents can be appreciated), the first name and surname(s) of the author, the professional address of the institution to which he or she belongs or, failing this, the personal address. An e-mail address and a telephone number should be provided in all cases. The articles should be submitted in digital format with correlative page numbering, explicitly indicating the programme used (preferably a Word application).

Maximum size must be 17.000 words for Estudis section and 7.000 words for Documents section.

Illustrations. Charts, tables, graphs, maps and figures (illustrations are considered to be figures) should be numbered consecutively, indicating where they have to be placed in the text and should be submitted in TIFF digital format with a minimum resolution of 300 pp. Authors are requested to submit diagrams and drawings produced with Illustrator, Freehand or Corel Draw in TIFF format. Pictures should always be accompanied by the graphical scale when necessary. The case of the text in the journal is 17.5 × 25 cm and the width of a single column is 8.5 cm. Each figure should have the name of the author of the article and its corresponding numbering. The figure captions should be submitted in order and duly numbered at the end of the article. References to the figures in the text will made according to the model. For example: … (fig. 11), … (fig. 13, 3), … (fig, 13, 7-9).

Bibliography. Bibliographical references in the text should be made as follows: a) We recommend using the Harvard system of direct references in brackets and the full bibliographic list at the end of the paper. The references in brackets will indicate the author’s surname, the year and the pages separated by colons; a semicolon should be used to quote two works or authors. For example:

(Pérez 1984: 25), (Pérez 1984: 25; 1988: 33-45) or (Pérez 1984: 25; Aubet 1978: 270), (Junyent and Pérez 1982: 63-93).

  1. b) Different articles published by an author in the same year will de differentiated by adding a, b or c, etc. For example:

(Maluquer 1982a: 251-256)

  1. c) The bibliography at the end of the paper will contain, in alphabetical order and by year, all the authors and works quoted in the text. The names of all the authors should be quoted in each reference; those with et al. are not acceptable. The authors’ names will be written in capital letters with the surname first, followed by the first name and then the date of publication in brackets.
  2. d) When referring to journals, periodicals and collections, the titles should not be abbreviated. For monographs, the place of publication should be given; for magazines, the volume and specific pages, and for congresses, the place and date they were held, as well as the place of publication.

The following examples illustrate this rule:

If the work only requires the use of footnotes, the reference marks should be placed in the text with correlative numbers in brackets. The abbreviation op. cit. should not be used.

In order to facilitate the composition, notes should be typed on separate pages, in order and at the end of the text. For example:

  1. For this subject see Pérez (1984: 25-27) and the new contributions by…
  2. Junyent, Pérez and Rafel (1988: 242) justify this situation …

Proof corrections. The authors will correct a set of galley proofs within a maximum of 14 days from the date they are sent out by the Board of Editors. This correction will be limited to spelling or numerical mistakes, etc. and will under no circumstances entail a substantial modification of the original text that has already been printed. If the corrected proofs are not returned within this period, the author will be assumed, under his or her own responsibility, to have accepted the text initially presented as definitive.

Each author will receive one copy of the journal, as well as a copy in pdf format. As the journal is published simultaneously in pdf electronic format (www.rap.cat), no offprints will be provided.
